Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Puttur in association with ACES and IEEE VCET Student Branch, VCET Puttur, had organized a technical talk on “Natural Language Processing” on 20th September 2023 at AV Hall,VCET Puttur. The resource person was Dr. H.L Shashirekha, Professor and Chairperson, Dept. Computer Science, Mangalore University.

Dr. H.L Shashirekha explained about Language Processing Techniques and tools required. The entire session was online in google meet platform. She gave information regarding how different Indian languages can be processed, different sources of data and how data could be extracted and stored in various software. Major technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Deep learning, Machine learning were also briefly explained. NLP stands for Natural Language Processing, which is a part of Computer Science, Human language, and Artificial Intelligence. She explained how this technology can used by machines to understand, analyze, manipulate, and interpret human's languages and helps developers to organize knowledge for performing tasks such as translation, automatic summarization, Named Entity Recognition (NER), speech recognition, relationship extraction, and topic segmentation. She specified about the IOT, and also related to Major-Project and also about process of evaluation. She also said about the importance of Courses and Projects in the field of Natural Language Processing. Detailed explanation was given for creating different datasets and how it could be stored along with that usage and importance of different Programming and Scripting languages in initiating language processing. At last, she informed the students to implement more projects on Natural Language Processing and to reach greater heights in the field of Natural Language Processing.

The master of ceremony was done by Krithisha of final year CSE and introduction of guest was done by Chaitra B from final year CSE. Dr. Uma Pare, Assoc. Professor, Dept of CSE welcomed the gathering. Prof. Pramod Kumar P M, Asst Professor, Dept of CSE delivered the vote of thanks.
