(Established:  2004)

Department of Mechanical Engineering is into the development of new technologies for benefitting society. It is the broadest and oldest engineering discipline, comprising energy, fluid mechanics, dynamics, combustion, vibration, design, manufacturing processes, systems modeling and simulation, mechatronics, robotics, mechanics of material, rapid prototyping and composites domains. It is one of the preferred branches of Engineering, referring back to when the very first wheel invented and used practically by mounting them on an axle to make a cart.
Throughout recorded history, people have been inventing and building increasingly more sophisticated devices and machines in order to improve the conditions of life.
Many of the machines encountered every day such as automobiles, tools, and climate control systems — were all made possible by Mechanical Engineers.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Vivekananda College of Engineering & Technology, Nehru Nagar, Puttur was established in the year 2004. Since the inception of the Mechanical Engineering course is continuing to provide excellent facilities for education with a dedicated faculty of highly qualified (Ph.D.’s) and experienced members. Keeping itself up to date with the latest development and trends in the field, all the laboratories and workshops are well equipped with modern machines and equipment’s to provide the best teaching-learning environment to the students.

Many types of machinery designed and developed are in the process of commercialization. Every year our students are sanctioned with KSCST and other funds to carry out project activities. The students are well versed in building Go-Karts, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. The department is striving hard to bring out many farming equipment to serve the local farmers.

The Department is equipped with adequate infrastructure to nurture the students on the engineering and technology platform. The department of Mechanical Engineering is currently operating with an intake of 60 students and state of art Research Centre.

Dr. Manujesh B J is heading the Department with 02 Professors, 01 Associate Professor, and 11 Assistant Professors. Apart from teaching, the Department is actively engaged in research work and 4 research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. degrees. The faculty members have published technical papers in National and International Conferences and reputed Journals. The department also extends its service to small-scale industries and society.

The department has a separate library with surplus books, which includes textbooks, reference books which are prescribed by the university, and also books on the latest technological advancements.
