A Talk on “Women Legal Rights and Laws in India” was organized by College Internal Complaints Committee-CICC in association with Grievance Redressal Cell-GRC on 07th  December 2022 at MCA Block, VCET, Puttur to observe the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Ms. Akshataha A P, Principal, Vivekananda Law college, Puttur has been the Chief guest of the function and delivered a guest lecture on “Legal Rights and Laws in India”. The lecture was an interactive session and resource person narrated about women legal rights and laws in India.

Speaker said every woman has the right to live in dignity, free of fear, coercion, violence and discrimination. Law respects woman’s dignity.  But in our society many people are unaware about the legal rights and laws of our constitution. She spoke about right against arrest, equal share in the property, right to safe abortion, right against being watched and stalked, right against domestic violence etc. Mrs. Akshatha A P narrated different Prevention and prohibition acts such as Domestic violence act(2005), Immoral Traffic Prevention act(1956), Indecent Representation of women act(1986), Dowry Prohibition act(1961), and Sexual Harassment of women at workplace act(2013). She expressed that a woman must be  independent in all aspects.
