About Civil Engineering:

Civil Engineering, considered as one of the oldest engineering disciplines, encompasses many specialities. Civil engineers will Design and Supervise in construction of Roads, Buildings, Airports, Tunnels, Dams and Bridges, Water supply and Sewage systems.

The Civil Engineers' positions range from supervisory to administrative job, from Site engineer to Project managers, from design and analysis to construction works.
The major specializations within civil engineering are Structural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water resources Engineering, Construction Technology, Transportation Engineering and Management, Infrastructure Engineering Management, Geo-technical engineering, Remote Sensing and GIS, Highway Technology, Computer Aided Design of structures.

About Civil Engineering:

The Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 2004 with intake strength of 60 students.  The department is  accredited by NBA for three years from 2019 - 2022.  The Department is run by a team of competent faculty, good infrastructure and excellent placement records. The department focuses on quality teaching, training, community based projects, industry interactions and research activities among staff and students. A number Faculty Development Programs are conducted regularly to inculcate the technical skills, soft skills and the research. Further, the department encourages the students to participate in external and internal conferences, workshops, invited lectures and seminars along with extra-curricular/co-curricular activities like technical fests, sports/games, cultural fests, Annual Alumni Meets, to ensure overall development, nurturing of team spirit and organizational skills.

In addition to academic activities, the Department is involved in research and development works and offers consultancy and technical services to industry and society. The Alumni of the Department are employed in reputed academic institutions, industries, and government organizations in and outside India. In addition to this many of the alumni are engaged in higher studies in prestigious institutions. The Department is recognized as one of the best Civil Engineering Departments in the Coastal area of Karnataka and it has attracted large community of both rural and urban students.

M1- Education: To deliver a quality engineering education through innovative dynamic teaching-learning environment and impart professional experience.
M2- Research: To provide a platform for faculty and students for the application of innovative technical knowledge in their field of interest.
M3-Society: To inculcate professional skills to cater the society through technical solutions to the real time problems.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) :

In consistency with Mission of college and Department, following Educational objectives were developed by the Civil Engineering Program.

• PEO-1: Provide solutions to various Civil Engineering problems considering innovative ideas, safety, cost effectiveness and sustainability.

• PEO-2: Pursue professional licensure, certifications and advanced learning with research which enable to harness the evolving technologies.

• PEO-3: Become a successful entrepreneur with ethical and societal responsibility.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs) :

PSO-1: Able to select material, plan and design the structures to fulfill the user requirements and prepare estimates.
PSO-2: Use engineering tools to carry out surveying and geotechnical investigations to suggest suitable foundations and eco friendly projects.
PSO-3: Conduct laboratory and field experiments, analyse and interpret the relevant data to draw meaningful conclusions.

PSO-4:Develop the skills to provide better public health, effective transportation network, hydro-power and irrigation structures.

Consultancy services:

The department is also providing Consultancy Services to the Govt. as well as Private organisations. Some of our clients are: PWD Mangaluru Division, South-Western Railways, Town Muncipality Puttur, Town Panchayath Belthangady, Zilla Panchayath D.K, PMGSY Division, K.M.C Constructions, Aishwarya Constructions, Lathashree Infrastructure Ltd, Airport Authority of India, Mangaluru.
We provide our services for Construction & Highway Material Testing, Third party inspection, Surveying, Geotechnical investigation, Water and wastewater quality analysis, Concrete Mix Design and testing, Structural Designs, BOQ Verification The department is also conducting regular seminars and interactions with practising Civil Engineers in association with PACE (Puttur Association of Civil Engineers), and ACCE (I)  (Association of Consulting Civil Engineers), Mangalore.

The department is striving hard with full dedication and commitment to achieve its educational goals and service to the society.

Research Grant of Rs. 40 Lakhs sponsored by Vision Group of Science & Technology (VGST), Govt. of Karnataka sanctioned for the Dept. of Civil Engineering.
