Department Overview

MCA programme is an important source of human resource for the software industry. The Department offers a two years course approved by AICTE, Government of Karnataka and is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum, Karnataka.

Computer Applications at Vivekananda College of Engineering & Technology is composed of core classes organized around the study of design and analysis techniques used to write software in various application domains along with details about the internal workings of computers and networks. Elective classes in areas such as Rich Internet Applications, Mobile Computing, Advanced Computer Networks, Graphics, Unix System Programming, Artificial Intelligence and others allow students to explore areas of individual interest.

The students entering MCA must have a B.C.A./B.Sc./ B.Com/B.A. degree with Mathematics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or at graduation.

A National Level Intercollegiate IT Fest for UG and PG Students

The Department of MCA and Ankuram, the student association of the department, Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Puttur organized two days Intercollegiate IT Fest, for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, on February 28, 2024, and February 29, 2024 in the college campus.

The event commenced with great enthusiasm with the esteemed presence of Mr. Praveen Udupa, CEO of A1 Logics, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest for the inauguration ceremony. Throughout the day, participants engaged in various competitions, workshops, and seminars tailored to enhance their skills and knowledge in the field of IT.

The second day of the event commenced with equal fervor, with participants eagerly participating in the remaining competitions and activities. The highlight of the day was the valedictory ceremony, graced by Mr. Sharath Srinivas, Founder, and COO of The Web People.

The Fest attracted about 300 students and 7 staff members from 24 colleges with twelve events, for UG and PG.

Mr. Sharath Srinivas, the chief guest, presented trophies and cash prizes to the overall winners of the ‘Aantarya 2k24’ SDM College Ujire and runners-up St Philomena College, Puttur in the UG section, as well as the overall winners of the ‘Aantarya 2k24’ NMAMIT Nitte and St Agnes College, Mangaluru in the PG section.
