On February 24, 2025, the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at Vivekananda College of Engineering & Technology (VCET), in association with the Artificial Intelligence Student Association (AISA), ISTE VCET, IEEE VCET Student Branch, and the Institution’s Innovation Council, organized an engaging hands-on workshop titled “LLM Magic: Prompting and Building Real-World Applications.” The event was held at the AIML Lab and attracted enthusiastic participation from students across multiple branches.

The session was led by Mr. Shreesha B., an alumnus of VCET’s AIML Department from the 2024 batch and currently a Systems Engineer at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Bengaluru. Returning to his alma mater, Mr. Shreesha brought with him not only technical expertise but also valuable industry insights. He began by introducing participants to the fundamentals of Large Language Models (LLMs), explaining their architecture, capabilities, and role in modern AI-powered solutions. His explanations bridged the gap between theory and practice, making complex concepts accessible to all.

A major focus of the workshop was prompt engineering, a rapidly growing skill in the AI industry. Mr. Shreesha demonstrated how crafting effective prompts can significantly enhance the accuracy and relevance of AI-generated outputs. Students were then guided through practical exercises, where they experimented with prompts and observed the real-time responses from LLM-based tools. The session also showcased how these models could be integrated into real-world applications such as chatbots, content generators, and coding assistants.

The workshop drew around 60 participants, including students from AI department, with faculty members present to provide additional guidance. Over the course of three hours, attendees gained both conceptual understanding and practical skills. Many students expressed interest in attending advanced workshops focusing on AI deployment and application scaling.

The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, during which Mr. Shreesha shared his personal journey from VCET to TCS, offering advice on building strong AI/ML portfolios and staying industry-ready. The organizers expressed their gratitude to him for his time, effort, and willingness to mentor the next generation of AI innovators. Overall, the workshop successfully achieved its goal of inspiring students to explore the vast potential of LLMs and equipping them with skills to build impactful AI solutions.
