






| The Department of Mechanical Engineering and MCA, at Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology (VCET), Puttur, organized a five-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) titled “Next-Gen Teaching with AI: A Hands-on FDP on AI Tools” from 30th July 2025 to 3rd August 2025. VCET, a reputed institution under the Vivekananda Vidyavardaka Sangha, has been a pioneer in delivering quality technical education in the coastal region of Karnataka since 2001. The primary objective of the FDP was to introduce faculty members to emerging AI tools relevant to education and pedagogy. The program aimed to provide hands-on experience in using these tools for lesson planning, content creation, and assessments. It further emphasized integrating technology into teaching practices, promoting the ethical use of AI, and fostering a community of innovative educators. Participants of the FDP gained awareness of key AI tools and developed the ability to design AI-enhanced lesson plans. They acquired practical skills for creating content using AI tools and learned strategies to improve student engagement. The program also helped build their confidence in adopting AI responsibly in the classroom. The sessions were led by eminent resource persons, including Dr. Manjunath D R, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering (Cybersecurity) at BMS College of Engineering, Bengaluru, and Mr. Dwarakanath Rao, Software Engineer at Ovyo Tech Services. The FDP featured a range of engaging sessions, starting with an inaugural session on Prompt Engineering. This was followed by topics such as Microsoft Copilot, NotebookLLM as a research assistant, Napkin AI along with ChatGPT and Perplexity for academic purposes, and concluded with a session on productivity and ethical AI practices. The sessions were conducted by various departments, including Computer Science and Engineering, Master of Computer Applications, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. A valedictory function marked the conclusion of the program on 3rd August 2025. |
