Effective Resume Writing – Crafting Your Gateway to Career

Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology (VCET), Puttur, hosted an event on October 13, 2025, titled “Effective Resume Writing – Crafting Your Gateway to Career,” aimed at enhancing students’ employability skills. The session was organized by the Department of Training and Placement in association with the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI & ML), under the 2025–26 academic plan.

Objective and Overview

The workshop focused on equipping V and VII semester AI & ML students with the skills required to prepare a professional, industry-ready resume in compliance with Applicant Tracking System (ATS) standards. Resource persons Ms. Smitha, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, and Ms. Sheethal S.K., Assistant Professor and Placement Associate, Department of MBA, conducted the session through a combination of presentations, hands-on examples, and interactive discussions.

Session Highlights

The facilitators emphasized resume fundamentals, the distinction between resumes and CVs, and the significance of concise, well-formatted documents. Students were trained to:

  • Write customized career objectives related to domains like Programming, Software Engineering, and AI-based research.
  • Categorize technical and soft skills, with examples including Python, TensorFlow, AWS, and communication skills.
  • Present projects and internships using quantifiable outcomes.
  • Avoid common resume mistakes like inconsistent formatting or exaggerated claims.

Modern resume-building tools such as Canva, Zety, and Rezi.ai were introduced, along with plagiarism prevention platforms like Grammarly and Turnitin. Students also learned about the importance of keyword optimization to improve ATS rankings.

Key Outcomes

By the end of the session, students demonstrated improved confidence in curating professional resumes tailored to the AI & ML industry. The event’s feedback analytics reflected widespread appreciation, with 95.9% of participants rating the session as useful and 93.2% finding the presentation clear. All respondents confirmed that their understanding of resume writing improved.

Institutional Impact

The initiative contributed to VCET’s broader mission, “From Classroom to Career,” emphasizing employability readiness and communication competence. It aligned with the program outcomes related to teamwork, communication, and lifelong learning.

The event concluded successfully at Savarkar Sabhabhavan, Krishna Chetana Block, VCET, marking another milestone in the college’s commitment to professional skill development.
